An APFK Butterfly in Haiti

I recently received this amazing email:

Hi Kathy,
As a fellow art teacher and a fan of your fabulous blog, I wanted to share with you some pics of where the butterfly mural that I'd downloaded from your blog has been. A group of five woman (myself included) raised funds to buy art supplies to bring to kids in Haiti as a creative outlet and a form of stress relief in hospitals, tent cities, orphanages and schools in the Port au Prince area. We raised almost $8000 and brought with us 350 lbs. of art supplies, medicine, donated clothing and hand sanitizer, we spent 8 days creating art everywhere we went. I designed the art projects that we would create throughout the week at all of our various locations and I thought that your butterfly mural would be great for kids of any age and would brighten any room. So a butterfly mural now lives at the MediShare pediatric ward and at the Angels of Light Orphanage in Port au Prince Haiti. The kids loved coloring them in and they looked beautiful on the walls. We actually are planning on going back again in August because our program was so well received and we couldn't get to all of the places that requested us... If you'd like to see more pics of what we did there, our art projects or more about our group "Hope art", please check out our blog and Facebook page at:
enjoy and thanks for b n cr8iv,

The email actually kick started a lot of conversations and to make a long story short, I am going to join these amazing women on their next trip to Haiti this August!! I couldn’t be more excited about taking this on and being able to help those who have had more than their fair share of struggles. If you would like to donate to this cause, please click HERE. Thank you and much more to come...
